[0:23] Hello, everyone. I'm Jonathan. I'm Crystal. And this is Haunt Weekly, a weekly podcast for the honored attraction and entertainment community. Whether you're an actor, owner, or just plain aficionado, we aim to be a podcast for you. And we return to you this week with complicated math. Because it turns out that episode 492 is divisible by four. Therefore, ipso facto, de facto standard, it is time to do the news. And there is a shit ton of that yeah and not much of it happy unfortunately yeah so here's the thing if you're wanting your mood to be killed or something like that we got the episode for you but if you're wanting a happier episode don't blame you check out about any of the other 491 you can find them at hauntweekly.com hauntweekly on facebook youtube.com slash hauntweekly and wherever you get your podcast from. Please feel free to follow, subscribe, like, do all the social media things I'm supposed to yell at you to do all the time and totally forget to.
[1:29] All right. Well, let's see what's going on this week. Work we did for the haunt. We actually have not done much for the haunt. We've been doing work on the house. Yeah. We built a cabinet, which realistically should not have taken a full day. No. No. It really shouldn't have. It's just one of those metal cabinets with the doors that lock. And the sliding shelves that you put in. Not that difficult, nothing complicated. But the worst fucking directions I have ever clapped eyes on, I swear to God. Yes, and before you say, was there a video? Um, no. Oh, actually, no, there was after you did all the research and found it. And the video had a different order of operations in the instructions.
[2:17] Yes, it was obviously built by someone who has built a lot of these and they did it in chaotic order. Well, from the instructions they gave us, it was chaotic order, probably was actually a much more sensible order.
[2:29] No okay i watched it no but my god because like and it was really bad because when we got the instructions out i'm like oh these are the good instructions because it was all glossy and full color and nice and then you realize and it only had 11 steps yeah 11 steps so like yeah we're gonna breeze through this son of a bitch um first thing no uh second thing there's like one poorly written sentence with each step and they relied very heavily on the photos that you cannot see the contrast and the photos were fucked yeah they they wanted you to make sure that the black cabinet that you just got was the black one it featured in the instructions yes they could have used any they make other colors they could have used any color and we would have just gone okay so they're showing us a red one we do this with a black one obviously yeah right no it looked like someone just took a giant sensor bar over everything in the fucking photos yeah and nothing's marked top or bottom so it was it was a fun jigsaw puzzle we had to redo at least three of the steps because we somehow fucked them up it was bad it was just rough and then we redid one just because we didn't fuck it up, but we thought we had. Yeah, because we were so unsure about things. Even when we were right, we were wrong.
[3:57] Yeah, that sounds about right. Jesus Christ. I want to talk about something else. Let's do the question of the week. All right. Question of the week. Last week, we asked, how can we grow haunting globally? Jinx Midnight said, more quality year-round haunted attractions and global tourist destinations. I feel like HHN's Vegas haunt could be a start to this. Expose international travelers, and then they will start wanting it at home, basically. I think there's good logic there. There is. There's one problem. International travelers really itching to come to the U.S. right now. Yeah. Everything I've read is that international travel has tanked. Yeah. And honestly, I can't blame them. No, not at all. I wouldn't want to visit here if I didn't live here. Yeah. I'm already here. Yeah. And I mean, and honestly, like I've done, like previously we've done a decent amount of international travel. We never had a problem getting into another country. No. It was always coming back. Oh, yeah. Coming back was always way worse than getting out. And that was like during different administrations and before our current crop of problems. This is all, you know, 10 years ago now. So, yeah. But anyway, so. And before we move on, Jinx, you are in our thoughts. I've seen what's been going on. We'll just leave it there.
[5:23] Thank you to you and hoping for the best. Exactly. All right. All right. Moving on, this week's question of the week. How is recruitment or finding a haunt going? Recruitment is in full swing. I am seeing all the ads and all the news stories about such and such as recruiting, and we're all like, no shit. Of course they fucking are. So, tis the season for recruitment. Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la. How's yours going? Let us know at all the places I mentioned at the top of the show. And we actually have a new member that's going to be joining the trick-or-treat area, so that's cool. Yeah, we've actually got our first new recruit of the year, she may, and it sounds like we might actually have a couple from this group, so I'm very excited.
[6:13] But, yeah, our recruit season starts later. Yeah, definitely. Later, because we don't open in September. unless you just like meet us and hang out with us sometimes and you're gonna hear that we have haunted house like that's one of our introduction lines yeah, So, yeah, I mean, it's always so weird because when we meet people,
[6:37] we're so fucking weird in every way. We have to figure out which weirdness we're leading with. Yeah. Which one's not going to scare the people away if they seem cool. Yeah. Okay. Because I got the polytriad thing. That's one. I'm an international plagiarism expert who's constantly getting on news and things for that. We have the haunted house. We have the yarn store. We have the yarn store. I mean, it's like, yeah, which weirdness do we lead with? We're like a vegan marathon runner trying to figure out which we talk about first.
[7:12] Anyways, conference reminders. Let's do conference reminders. Before this train goes too far off the track. That is too late.
[7:21] July 26th and 27th. It is coming up soon, folks. It's Texas Hunters Convention. It will be at the Irving Convention Center. Featuring a trade show, Floor Haunt Tour with Dark Hour, Game Night, TexasHauntersConvention.com for more info. All right. After that same, right around the same time. Actually, it is the same time. Yeah. July 26th and the 27th. If you're West Coast in Fresno, California, it's Hauntmare Expo at the Fresno Fairgrounds. Featuring five haunted attractions, three escape rooms and a rage room. Special guests and a horror panel, HauntmareExpo.com for your details. August 8th through the 10th, it's the Ha! Event 3. That's the Hawners Against Hate event. It will be in Lexington, Kentucky at the Crowne Plaza. Many celebrity guests, trade show floor, drag shows, lots of fun events to go to. HaTheEvent.com for more info. Definitely an excellent event. Cannot recommend enough. And also, I can say the same for Texas Hawners Convention, too. We've been to both. Yes. And they both were wonderful.
[8:24] All right finally this week august 15th through the 17th it's midsummer scream eek at long beach california the long beach convention center the hall of shadows newly expanded according to something we will be discussing in a minute um the screening room uh the screaming room for movies tons of celebrity guests midsummer scream.org for more information the hall of shadows is definitely a bucket list item for me that is something if i ever can get my ass out to california at a good time i have to see it was almost almost yes it almost did it almost happened this year for you it did i may be going to california for a work thing in august but they moved it now to the point it's going to be the week before labor day so it's like the very end of the month yeah which boo these people that does mean that we get to see psycho stick together Yeah, okay, fine. So, well, there's a give and take there. Bright side of life, blah, blah, blah.
[9:24] All right. So, anyways, as we said, 492, episode divisible before, time to do the news. And, unfortunately, there's nowhere else to start, really. No. Is there? Other than revisiting the field of Scream story. Now, we talked about it at some length previously when we did our episode on Hot Red Flags. So, we're not going to talk too much about the story so far.
[9:50] Instead we're going to sort of talk about what's happened since then including and in fact we've been delayed in recording this because of some scheduling conflicts well yeah basically i recorded another thing last week that took 10 hours yeah i was hoarse by the end of the day yeah she was not useful for talking yeah and that was the day that we were going to record originally but it came up in a work thing and it's like you've got to do this by tomorrow it's like all right and yeah at the end there was just no hope yeah but anyways um so the whole thing as we know kicked off originally by an article by ann rajat at spotlight pa um and like i said we talked about in episode 490 pretty heavily but to make a long story short too late dozens of volunteers at Field of Screams in Pennsylvania have claimed they've suffered, been victims of various types of sexual abuse by managers and other volunteers. Field of Screams has said the claims are quote-unquote unfounded, but they canceled a recruiting event that actually they just reposted and are doing in August now.
[11:03] And there's been a new Facebook group that has launched where other survivors and other volunteers are coming forward with their stories. And there's also a petition on Change.org to shutter the haunt. Yeah, and as far as we can tell, as of right now, there are no legal charges against the haunt or anyone at the haunt. Yeah, and it's unlikely that there will be, given the nature of a lot of these.
[11:32] But it seems like a very unhealthy environment for people to be in. And the problem, the worst part about it was, is that Field of Screams became unabashedly and completely aware of the issue in 2020. There is no doubt that they knew about these problems in 2020 and did not get rid of the people who were the problem. Yeah. Especially this one person that was the target at that moment. But yeah, that's the really bad part of it is they have just basically said that, you know, these claims are unfounded. They're not taking it seriously. They've not even really responded in any meaningful way to it. Now, since the story broke, there have been two additional articles or two additional events, if you will. The first, this is an article by Jay Campos at Lancaster Online. Um basically mountville borough objects to field of screams application for a liquor distillery now this is a weird one they have the right to sell alcohol on site they have a bar the chainsaw bar um that they sell alcohol at they were applying to become a micro distillery slash brewery They wanted to make their own alcohol. Yeah.
[12:53] Now, the application is actually with the state, so this does not guarantee it will be rejected. They can ignore this, but it represents one of the first times that the local government has done anything against field of screams. Yeah. Yeah, because usually they just get...
[13:14] Yeah, that's been one of the complaints, repeatedly, was the local police and the local government just kind of lets them do whatever and grants them whatever they need in order to do it. And, yeah, so there's been no oversight, but the council objected four to one. Uh there was no discussion of the sexual abuse allegations at the event um but they did cite lots of concerns over the existing alcohol sales in particular overly drunk customers security things like that so yeah basically basically you already have alcohol on the premises and there's already problems there's already problems why are we going to give you a license to take that a step further. Yeah, exactly. I think that's the basic problem here. So it's not directly related, but it does... The allegations push this into a different light. Definitely. And honestly, if they knew they had problems with the existing alcohol system, it seems like you would want to fix what you have rather than try to expand it. You would. I mean, but that's just logic talking, right? Exactly.
[14:29] That is exactly right and the second story which unfortunately broken is not in our notes so i'm apologize for that a second article by uh and rejra uh came out so once again spotlight pa, highlighting the fact that field of screams played very fast and loose with its obligations under Pennsylvania law. Basically, under Pennsylvania employment law, they can use volunteers because they are an agro business and they fall underneath this agro entertainment business. It's a weird exemption and it fucking sucks and I believe that there is an ethical obligation to pay your fucking actors if you are not a full-on charity haunt. If anyone's getting paid, everybody gets paid. Yeah we've talked about that that was on episode 490 and lots of others yeah but if anyone's getting paid everyone should get paid it's that simple yeah but the point is they have an exemption so they can legally do it but in order to have minors volunteer they have to file paperwork with the state that they had not done for quite some time now they began doing it in 2020 but up to they had not been doing it, not been following the law. Yeah. And they also talked about other issues that had been.
[15:53] More stories basically um so yeah it's a it's a fucking mess my thoughts are with all of the survivors and their family and friends and you know everyone harmed yeah um.
[16:06] It sounds like that list is really really long and you know i i can cut slack for haunts that maybe didn't realize they had a problem or were ignorant but when they became aware of the problem they became responsible for everything that happened and that's the last five years yeah and a lot of these stories are newer than five years they are and that's that's what is so incredibly frustrating to me not that not just that something like this happened right but that they enabled it and continued and even after it was so clearly demonstrated to them yeah hey look this is inappropriate what do you want me to do about it yeah yeah and and this is the type of thing a volunteer environment does breed because you know you have to make choices about because sacrificing a volunteer especially a long running one is difficult we've had to do it yeah it's hard and you really do get a knot in your stomach worrying if you know you're going to be able to do the show as well or what's going to happen right but you know we did it we we took that knot in our stomach and we dealt with it and i wish field of screams uh could too.
[17:26] Moving on to some happier news. Let's talk something a little bit happier. This is going to be a real roller coaster, by the way. I'm just telling you now. Yeah. Remember how Jinx Midnight was talking about HHN's Vegas? Yep. Year-round? Well, Universal is also bringing a new year-round horror experience to Chicago.
[17:46] This article is by 5Chicago, and it basically just announced that. It's the second one that'll be similar to the one in Vegas so this is really exciting but it's gonna it's expected to open in 2027 and future mazes which I hate the use of the word mazes but that's what they call them yeah mazes bars retail space basically the same kind of yeah they're doing in their basically but they're just doing it in Chicago yeah and construction will begin early next year they hope it'll bring 400 permanent jobs to the region and will generate 1 billion 1 billion in economic impact um i find this really interesting it is i'm wondering if why chicago there's a lot of haunts there already i know well it's got a strong as hell haunt community that that's no doubt well and that's that's something that's you know i'm sure that the haunts in the area are worried about is losing good quality actors to HHN moving in. Yeah, those 400 permanent jobs. Exactly, 400 permanent year-round scare jobs. Or jobs in general, yeah, in the scare industry. Even if you're just waiting tables at one of the restaurants, you're still in the scare industry at this point. Exactly.
[19:11] Yeah that's yeah you got a point there that's going to be some competition there it's it's and you.
[19:17] Know it didn't hurt the haunts in um florida because.
[19:21] We talked to some people there whenever hhn started they they had had a haunt before um and it didn't hurt them much like a few people left but this is all this is why you build a really good community inside well and also like doing an HHN thing like the regular Halloween Horror Night at the uh at the uh at the parks um that is a very big ask because we have talked to a lot of people who work there it's a huge commitment and so yeah if you want a more dialed back haunt commitment yeah you're probably going to go to another haunt um you know there you can take tiers and go all the way from just a regular haunt with it 16 night or whatever season or all the way down someone like us where it's just three you know yeah you can find a haunt but one person talks about how they had to show up at 6 p.m every night for a makeup call even though like i said they're in their case that was just a rope yeah yeah which is silly um but yeah and then it doesn't end until midnight so that's a six hour run and it's every night yeah it's a full-time job it's not just like most haunts operate on just weekends so it's a big ask but yeah you got a point there that's going to be interesting and it's going to be interesting to see how the chicago haunt community embraces this also.
[20:48] Other than like obviously south louisiana we're probably most familiar with the chicago haunt.
[20:54] You know japes and others in that area we've had the opportunity to meet a lot of wonderful people in that area that space and yeah i'm going to be very interested to see how this does but my thing is i don't really think of chicago as a huge tourist city maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm the idiot here yeah i think they get a lot of tourists um i also would like to propose that they bring a year-round haunt to new orleans area yes someone needs to at least bring a tourist seasonal haunt you can open it um do the opposite of summer basically open at labor day and you close it you know memorial day right yeah basically the opposite um so yeah uh but yeah that that could be a a wonderful wonderful um thing here and you could probably make a lot of money the problem is this is not a cheap city in the tourist areas to set up. Oh, no, it's not. Well, it's not a cheap city to set up. There's also, like, a lot of businesses left after Katrina because of hurricane. Yeah. And insurance is really hard to get in the area, too. Yeah. Like, we lost our Ripleys, believe it or not, after Katrina. I remember seeing the video of them taking out the giant statues. Yeah. By the way, that has to be a hilarious thing to have to pack up and move. I'm just saying.
[22:21] But yeah, this will be interesting.
[22:24] Speaking of vegas which we were just talking about a haunted attraction is quote-unquote returning to vegas with fear dome now this is an article by jason braceland the las vegas review journal the fear dome well technically it's a debut on september 26 it'll take the same place as fright dome did until 2017 fright dome was one of the biggest best known haunts, Closed in 2017 due to financial issues. Yeah, it was a huge, huge thing. We actually had a friend who guest acted there one night. And other friends who loved it. Yeah. Who loved going. So, yeah, I was very sad when it closed because that was definitely one of the bucket list type of places that I wanted to go to. But Fear to Amit is making it clear this isn't a revival. It's a, quote, unquote, full-scale reinvention. But they are excited to bring a haunted attraction back to this location. And it will run from September 26th through Halloween. Yeah. Great to see the location being used. Obviously, it's a good location for a haunt. I mean, as I said, Fright Dome is one of the best known in the country.
[23:37] I'm super happy and I hope I wish them all the success in the flipping world. Mm-hmm. All right. um freakling brothers horror show is putting its 2025 season on pause once again vegas yeah yeah and this article is by justine verestique at fox 5. Um so yeah in in vegas they're planning on revamping everything for a new experience to open in 2026 season um replacing the castle vampire their longest-running haunt. Is it guess a vampire or vampire? I hate it when people spell vampire that way. I don't know. Is there such a... Please, sorry. It's okay. They just wanted to seem fancy. I don't... Like... There were so many things I had to look up the pronunciation of for that thing last week. And then, like, I rolled the R on one of the words, and then they're like, I like the flair that you gave to that word, but you have to re-record the whole slide because it's not right. It's, like, great. You know, I would just read the entire thing like Tony the Tiger.
[24:53] It's a great. Exactly. Yeah, but anyway, the new haunt is expected to be announced on Halloween of this year for opening next year. Yeah, Castle Vampire is their oldest and longest-running haunt, and they said they wanted to take the time to replace it right. You know what?
[25:13] Good on them. I know this is a big risk and a big expense, but man, I think they're doing the right thing, honestly, because you definitely don't want to half-ass something this important. So I agree completely with that. Um...
[25:32] So, another haunt that seems to be facing trouble. This is an article by Audrey Medina at the Waxahatchee Sun. Yeah. I got there. Yeah, Waxahatchee. It's actually very fanatic. Yeah. But basically, in Waxahatchee, Texas, resident Alex Lohman, who's also the owner of Big Blue Truck, LLC, wants to open a new haunted attraction in the area. However, the Planning and Zoning Committee rejected his plan, citing concerns over infrastructure and logistics. The city council could still overrule that decision. So there's still a door open, so to speak, on this. But the biggest concern was over parking and fear that crowds could create traffic and safety issues. Lohman says he intends to continue to try to open the haunt. But, yeah, this is a good example of the difficulty of trying to convince towns and cities and counties and other, you know, planning officials that a haunted attraction is a good idea. It's a tough sell sometimes. It is. I mean, and I, yeah, so. I guess, you know, he's probably looking at how to address all of the issues that they brought up. Yeah. And resubmit a new plan. Yeah, and it's kind of hilarious because we did that episode eons ago on parking.
[27:01] And, you know, when I came up with the idea, we were like, there's no way we're going to get 50 minutes out of parking. Yeah. There's no way. There's no goddamn way. It's a fucking field. All right. You put a few lines on it and call it a fuck. No, it turns out there actually was a lot to talk about there. And here, it's one of the most important things because it's what's literally holding up this, one of the things, literally holding up this haunt from even coming into existence. Yeah. So, yeah.
[27:30] I wish them luck.
[27:34] All right um more problems uh terror on the trails has canceled this is in evansville indiana and the article is by zariah cole at 14 news neighbors are relieved that the year-round props are coming down it's not opening this year because it has experienced exponential growth in recent years and the homeowners in the areas complained about the year-round decorations and the large crowds and um said that they had oh god sorry all right but it led to challenging a challenge managing hundreds of volunteers and community concerns so this sounds like a home haunt that just got way overgrown yeah and i know that fear yeah and i'm not sure that um, i'm not actually sure if this is a home haunt or if it's a professional one, or one that's like straddling that line because yeah.
[28:41] Yeah it's it's it's an interesting story it does sound like they have really grown and that's one of the really weird challenges when you see because a lot of events especially in uh neighborhoods.
[28:59] Uh can fly under the radar even when they're being fairly large but there's a tipping point and it's very hard to say when that tipping point is yeah because there's a tipping point and they've studied this with traffic it's weird because like if you have a traffic jam you don't need to take half the cars off the road if you take like 10 or 5 of the cars off the road, you know the traffic opens up it's it's a it's an exponential curve as to when thing when you hit that wall and that's one thing i've always worried about with our bond is getting to the point that we hit that hockey stick curve and now we're creating more problems for the neighborhood than we're worth yeah and i will say that it is a home haunt okay um but yeah yeah it's it's it's sad but an understandable thing i'm honestly i hope they are looking at finding a new location where they can grow because i mean obviously people are enjoying what they do yeah there is a fan base there there is and you know they wanted to emphasize that they did have some code violations, but code enforcement is not shutting them down. Not the issue, not shutting them down. This is their choice. Yeah.
[30:16] They're still open to address the community concerns, but yeah. All right. Next item up for.
[30:25] Is it my turn? Okay. Field of Screams. A different Field of Screams. This one is in Olney, Maryland. I so want to say only Maryland. Every time I see it. Olney, Maryland. Not the one in Pennsylvania we've been talking about previously. And this article is by Max Schaefer at Bethesda Today. In Olney, Maryland, the Boys and Girls Club say that their fundraiser attractions are facing permitting issues this includes field of screams haunted attraction and winter city lights so they obviously have a haunted attraction and a uh christmas event uh faces complaint of heavy traffic from nearby residents there's the damn traffic and parking again yep um and.
[31:11] And the two appeals are ongoing yeah so they actually received um an expansion to their permits in July 2024, which prompted area residents to file objections with the appeals board. The club is preparing to refile its modification application, but is hoping to work out an interim solution so they can open this year. Opening was delayed last year due to permitting issues. This is once again why it's so important, but also so difficult to have those great relationships with your neighbors. Neighbors who love you will do anything for you. Neighbors who don't like you or are upset with you will do everything they can to destroy you yeah it's just that's how it is it's it's sad but true i'm good luck hope you're able to find that interim solution i think i'm saying that every single one of these uh well that's because there's a lot back to back yeah all right next up we have um from the conference reminders as you You mentioned briefly, Midsummer Scream has announced that the bigger, more terrifying Hollow Shadows
[32:19] will be happening this year. This article is by Mike Wilton at the All Hallows Guild.
[32:28] It will feature Le Carnival du Diable and the Devil's, which translates to the Devil's Carnival. I wonder if there will be any theming from the movie. And then we'll combine the efforts of over a dozen different attractions, a pop-up bar and more. Lionsgate is also returning to the Hall of Shadows for the sequel to its effort last year, Lionsgate Fear. Gears of Fear 2, Stranger Danger, which, you know, I know the gears from Lionsgate because we watch Repo so often. Yeah. And Devil's Carnival is another... Is it Lionsgate? I don't know if it is. But it's the same director, yeah. I was saying it's the same director. Yeah, okay, fair enough. Yes. But yeah. But yes, they were last year the first movie-themed entrance to Hall of Shadows. Yeah. I wonder if Lionsgate is going to try to find some way to do something like an HHM. That would make a lot of sense because they like Lionsgate is the only company with extensive horror properties I can think of that has not attempted any kind of licensing. Yeah. That I've seen to haunted houses.
[33:48] I mean it's kind of weird it is and i because they have the saw movies and they have done some things with like escape rooms but i don't think they actually like maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm i'm not there's something i'm missing or forgetting but i don't remember it being um licensed for haunted house now plenty of haunts have obviously infringed upon it yeah we've seen jigsaw a few times more than a few but yeah so i don't know it's interesting but speaking of licensing art the clown is heading to halloween horror night um this is an article by jonathan grass at wftv ft oh no i keep on the wtf god damn it my brain is okay anyway come on focus.
[34:38] Focus um yes universal orlando has announced that terrifier will be coming to hhn art the clown will feature in one of the hhn houses he will join current confirmed houses including jason voorhees one centered around jason voorhees a fallout themed one which we talked about in a previous episode and two original attraction grave of flesh it just sounds gross and el artista a spanish haunting which i'm very curious about yeah um hhn will run from august 29 through november 2nd and there will be 10 houses in total so we do not know all the houses yet but terrifier art the clown will be one of them yeah and we know that you know lots of people like him and he had a recent movie so yeah i mean i gotta admit it he's it's definitely a It's a hot property right now, and I may not be, I may not get it. I thought it was a fine, I saw Terrifier 1, I thought it was a fine movie, but I did not think it would become the next huge thing.
[35:43] I guess i was wrong anyway um all right next up hershey park halloween and dark nights is returning with new haunted house for 2025. I always love this because of course everything returns with new stuff um anyway this article is by haunted attraction network hershey park in hershey pennsylvania announced its dark nights will return for 2025 with a new haunt and more scare zones will feature Kill and Fill Garage, which is the new thing. Previous haunts were A State of Evil, Antimortems, Abattoir, Haunted Coal Mine, and Twisted Carnival. New scare zones entitled Path of Shadows, Coven's Curse, Dark Stones, Hollow Midway of Misery, and Fallout Zone. The nights will begin at 6 p.m. during season and end at 10 or 11 events start september 12th and goes through november 2nd, that's a long run yeah it's probably catalyzing because isn't uh september 13th a friday the 13th this year i don't know i thought it was it would make sense if it is though.
[37:01] Let's have a quick look here it is we're doing it live doing it live baby no it is not it is maybe it was last year that everything was opening early for a friday yeah well i mean and the thing about it is like opening on friday the 12th is still kind of funny.
[37:16] You can do the disappointed jason t-shirt um so fear farm haunted fairgrounds will open this fall in a brand new location this is in scottsdale arizona this is an article by nicole gutierrez at abc 15 uh fear farm theme park will open in an all new location it's owned by 13th floor and the haunt is relocating to a brand new venue that is about all we know they do give you the geography of where it is but i've never been to scott's dale so i have no idea the import of it it's just a move from this street to this street okay yeah cool i don't know what to do but it is interesting that a 13th floor um attraction is relocating yeah we don't you don't see that a lot 13th floor in particular seems to be pretty stable about their locations yeah they seem to buy up um haunts that are struggling and keeping that location yeah i because i'd always thought one of the things the 13th floor did was purchase the location basically. Yeah.
[38:23] So, that's an interesting decision here. Yeah, but we know that they don't always purchase the location because New Orleans Nightmare. Yeah. Isn't it 13th Florida? Yeah, it is. Okay. Yeah, because they don't own that property. They don't.
[38:39] I thought they did. No. House of Shock was renting that. So there was no way they could sell it because it wasn't theirs. Well, fair play. All right. Well, our final story is a sad one again. Yeah, it is.
[38:52] Edward Terribus, the co-founder of Erebus Haunted Attraction, has passed away this past month. This is an article by the Haunted Attraction Network. Edward Terribus was co-founder of Erebus, the very famous haunt in the Detroit area.
[39:07] He, along with his brother Jim, founded Erebus in, like I said, Detroit area, Pontiac, Michigan. They recently expanded to include a scape room and an oddities museum. We actually covered the opening of the oddities museum when it happened. I remember that. We did. And we also saw this on Facebook, too. Yes. Oh, yeah. This has been all over. Yeah. Yeah. It was very sad and sudden. Yes. But nobody expected this. Yeah.
[39:32] He was also the founder of Fear Finder magazine. which promoted haunted attractions in the area obviously he'll be dearly missed by everyone in the industry Erebus is legendary and it's legendary because of him and his brother yeah so they are um at this point I did see that they are still recruiting for this season so it does not look like there are any plans to shut down this season yeah I'd imagine not but you never know it's true you never know but i'm glad to see the haunt is uh moving forward and i think that's exactly what edward would want yeah i know it's it's what i think most haunt owners would want you know we we do this out of love we don't do this uh to make money or find fang there are much easier ways to do both of those things well on that note everyone thank you very much for joining us for the past 40 or so minutes it's been wonderful having you, uh hope this was helpful i hope you learned something and please do check out all the other places we exist that's hauntweekly.com haunt weekly on facebook youtube.com slash haunt weekly and all of the podcasting apps until next time i'm jonathan i'm crystal and we will see you all next week.
